Not only is Writer Standard fully compatible with Microsoft Word (97/2000/2003/2007/2010), but it also includes a user interface that is highly similar to the 2007 version of the latter. Writer Standard saves documents as .wps format by default which can be opened by Microsoft Word even without Writer being installed on the computer. At the same time, users are also allowed to save their documents as .doc format.
